Maybe a more experienced person regarding piano's can add a comment. Weber pianos are made by Young Chang Co., Chinese or Korean made. That's probably in the ball park for what you'd pay for a pretty nice "new" vertical. I'm looking at a new Kawai K-25 a Yamaha P22, and a Charles Walter 1500 (this one a bit pricy).
Also, if you are contemplating used, hire your own piano technician to look at the used piano before you put a deposit. It definitely helps to feel somewhat educated about piano's when you're out there looking. It has a lot of great tips on buying new and used piano's. Also, if you haven't already read "The Piano Book" by Larry Fine, you may want to pick up a copy. It wasn't until just recently when her music is starting to be played with "feeling" that we've noticed a disadvange to this entry level digital. Our initial investment of $1,000 for the digital has paid for itself in practice time alone!! It was always "in tune" and had a piano cabinet with the three pedals. It has served her well, but she has definitely matured in her playing and would like an acoustic. My daughter has been playing for 3.5 years on a Yamaha "entry level" digital piano. However, since funds are limited I have topped by budget at $5,000 and am hoping for find a new or several year old piano for closer to $4,500. Personally, I'm in the market for piano's right now as you are. I'm in totaly agreement, that the children should have a decent piano's as they may get frustrated practicing on a less than ideal piano. However, it is a very big investment for children just "starting" lessons. Ncmac, what price range is the baby grand? Just my opinion, but how young are the children? If you are financially secure and have money to blow, sure go for it.
